Boeotia

Boeotia was the home to the oldest city in Greece, Graia, which fittingly means ancient or old. It is this city from which the name Greece was derived. The most important city in our modern day Boeotia is Thebes, birthplace of the legendary Hercules. Its central location makes it significantly important both politically and strategically.
