Fae Visions

July 3, 2006
The mists part to a dark forest glen with the flickering glow of a bonfire dancing across a small hillock. Celebratory music played on a pipe reach your ears as a thick fog pours across the green ground.

The fog eddies and stirs, suddenly a face leaps up before yours, its mouth turned up in a happy grin. Before you can get a good look at the figure, he turns and throws his cloak behind his back, the cloth blackening out the scene.

Sounds of merriment and feasting bounce in the darkness of your mind as tiny pinpricks of light like glowing wisps dance into view. The glow lights up a dark cavern with trees climbing up to its roof.

Suddenly the cavern floor drops from under you! You are falling through darkness so deep that you cannot tell which way is up. Tittering giggles follow your descent as the nothingness flies past.

You hit the ground hard and realize you are standing back in the temple with your nails digging painfully into the metal of the bowl. As your mind crashes you back to reality you hear a voice recite:

"Wise men know beauty is only skin deep,
But within the heart deviltry may creep.
So beings from a land that cannot be,
Will come from across a foreign sea
With only their own concerns in mind
To regain all that they have left behind.
Let none among you bear confusion -
For powers they have in profusion,
The art of deception and illusion,
and a dark dedication to delusion."

The mists part to reveal the scrying bowl as it was before. Suddenly fog begins to pour from the bowl and flowers blossom out of the water, spilling over the sides.

A golden snake whips from the center of the foliage and drags you into the bowl after him. You hear giggling as the water floods past your face and the world shimmers into a dark forest amid a drenching downpour.

A young woman with long, flowing hair dances into view, wearing a purple gown. As you look at her, her features begin to twist and contort, her hair color and eyes changing as if on a whim. She gives you a wink and walks through a nearby tree.

Suddenly the forest scene is whipped from under you as you fly through the tops of the trees. You break into the clouds above and suddenly find yourself standing before the bowl again.

You hit the ground hard and realize you are standing back in the temple with your nails digging painfully into the metal of the bowl. As your mind crashes you back to reality you hear a voice recite:

"Wise men know beauty is only skin deep,
But within the heart deviltry may creep.
So beings from a land that cannot be,
Will come from across a foreign sea
With only their own concerns in mind
To regain all that they have left behind.
Let none among you bear confusion -
For powers they have in profusion,
The art of deception and illusion,
and a dark dedication to delusion."
