Bins of sugary dates, dried figs, apples and pomegranates share space with platters of fresh squares of baklava on the countertop. A fan of spreading palm leaves hangs from the ceiling, waving slowly back and forth in nearly magical fashion. Upon closer inspection, however, one notes the tiny gilt cords from the fan to a small cage holding a gerbil. As the gerbil runs within a small wheel affixed to the cage, the cord moves the fan, producing the slightest of breezes. You also see Kineta the shopkeeper.
