Other Visions

Summer 2009, Exact Date Unknown
Suddenly a vast smoke roils in and encompasses the world around you, shrouding it in billows of white fog. Your grip tightens on the scrying bowl and you feel frozen in place as the ground seems to drop down and spiral away from your mortal shell.

The mists part to reveal a serene lake, the reflection of a crescent moon rippling on its otherwise still waters.

You hear howling wolves piercing the night of the scene unfolding before you as the surface of the lake begins to agitate slightly.
A hand breaks the surface of the water and grasps the reflection of the crescent, raising it high with moonlight still glinting off the curved surface.

The moonlight reflected from the curved object in the raised hand flashes and reveals the silhouettes of the howling wolves and an irrational wave of sheer terror causes you to back away and lose your concentration.

Through your panic a voice recites:

"A peaceful village on the shores
Is now a place of untold horrors-
An item stolen from the protector
By the power-hungry, cold defector.
But time is yet that it might unite
More than planned on that dark night."

This was in reference to the Scimitar of the Moon, a weapon used to control and grant extra strength to the lycanthropes of Hierra. The Scimitar was destroyed, though the werewolves remain on Hierra. They simply are much more manageable to the inhabitants and to the few Athenians who are high enough in skill to handle them.

Suddenly a vast smoke roils in and encompasses the world around you, shrouding it in billows of white fog. Your grip tightens on the scrying bowl and you feel frozen in place as the ground seems to drop down and spiral away from your mortal shell.

All is dark and your eyes try rapidly to adjust to it. A light feebly illuminates from somewhere and in it you see the sillouhette of a male and a female, their backs to each other though each seems somehow unaware of the other. They disappear from the light almost instantly as your eyes begin to adjust to the point of taking in details.

The shadows begin to crowd in around you and you are suddenly certain that the figures have not gone completely. They seem to stand on opposing sides of you and, despite the clinging darkness, you are able to catch sight of glinting eyes and frighteningly white fangs. A cat and a wolf bristle in front of you at the sight, as if they would guard you, while a raven cocks its head almost dispassionately from within the single pool of remaining light.

Streaks of blood suddenly cover your vision as you hear a sickening thud, a canine whimper catching your ear as your view flickers to the sight of the cat from before lying in a motionless ball in front of you. Your hands come up into your line of sight, covered in blood as you feel yourself sink to the floor.

You still find yourself staring at your own hands as a voice recites:

"Though allies may be shunned,
That does not change them.
To provoke the wrath of night
Has a cost that will be paid.
So come they who care not
Whether you live to daylight.
Words that cannot be unsaid
Can warrant the anger of those
Whose opinions are unswayed."

The imagery used in the visions tend to be a way of showing 'people' without actually revealing them. In this case, the three featured animals are also the animal forms of The Vrykolakas. Vinnee takes the form of a wolf, Basilikos the form of a cat, and Lenore is a raven. It is likely Vinnee and Basilikos are acting as the two 'guardians' in this, a reference to them as allies being "shunned" but it not changing their attempts to protect. Though the vision seems to indicate that they may perish along with the Athenians if the course of this account is not changed.
